Project Description

When it came to the landscape design of this 3,500 square foot home with a detached studio, Mark was strongly influenced by English gardens for their use of color, and the Italian Renaissance for its formal vistas and structural stonework. The grassy front lawn sweeps up from the street to the home, showing off the surrounding plants. The back patio is paved with bluestone bordered in Belgian block, which was also the stone used on the side walkway to the front of the home. The back patio, the most closely connected outside area to the home’s interior, is the hot spot for entertaining as it is adjacent to the kitchen and breakfast room. A gravel path leads to a large round water feature, which is the primary image seen from the home. The multi-seasonal back garden has a distinct Asian Garden’ style incorporated into the design which was achieved with traditional Japanese plant materials. The Chinese pagoda, similar in structure to the Sui dynasty 7th century Four Gates Pagoda, and the large hand carved Buddha head, add strong stone elements to the garden.
